The Story
Building online competition.
Performster.com was dreamed up in November of 2006 by Brian Patterson and Reza Pourrabi. Brian, an IT major, and Reza, a marketing major, became friends their senior year of college at George Mason University. They quickly discovered that their complimentary skills would be very useful in business and so they set out to take over the world (or at least build a successful joint venture).
One late night in November, Brian and Reza discussed a video website that could create a fun niche in online entertainment. Think “the best of online video” combined with “the best of reality TV “, Reza explained. What emerged that night was the foundation for Performster.com.
Many names were kicked around; LimeLightBling, PerformStar, TlikeV and JamBox were just some of the rejects. When Performster rolled off the tongue of Brian or Reza (nobody is sure who first said it) it stuck. A merely made up word captured the essence of what the site was all about, showcasing competition of all kinds.
Research, requirements gathering, brainstorming and dreaming took place over the next few months. The idea was solid, but how do we ensure its success? In March, 2007 the Performster.com blog was launched. The guys decided to pull back the curtain and show exactly what they were doing while trying to launch the website. They posted videos from meetings, made announcements as soon as deals were struck, and opened up the whole process to anyone who was interested. Brian and Reza still periodically update the Performster blog.
We all hope you enjoy the performster.com website and that you invite a few friends to check it out. Stumble, Del.ic.ious, Digg us and all that good stuff. Or, if you’re old school, bookmark us… nice.
